EFFECTS OF VARIOUS PULP CAPPING AGENTS ON ACTIVITY OF ALKALINE PHOSPHATASE IN CANINE DENTAL PULPS

Abstract
This experiment was performed to study the effects of pulp capping agents on activity of alkaline phosphatase in dental pup.
The cavities were prepared on the labial, buccal or occiusal surfaces of canine teeth under anesthesia and capped with calcium hydroxide, zinc oxide eugenol, Cavitec and Dycal.
Experimental groups were divided into five groups, as 1, 3, 7, 14 and 21 days according to period, respectively. After experimental period teeth were extracted and dental pulp collected and prepared for enzyme assay.
The activity of alkaline phosphatase was determined by spectrophotometry.
In Cavitec group, activity of alkaline phosphatase of the dental pulp tissue decreased during the experimental period and was lower than that of other groups. The enzyme activity of the pulp in zinc oxide eugenol group was little changed, but lower than that of control group.
In calcium hydroxide group, activity of alkaline phosphatase decreased in early stage after pulp capping, but was recovered at 7 and 14 days. The enzyme activity of Dycal group decreased at 7 days, but was recovered at 14 and 21 days.
